Some colorpigments for paintmaking are dug up from the earth and used as they are. They are called earthpigments and their tint originates from a certain geographical location, for instance Siena, Italy. Those pigments are not toxic. Other pigments for paintmaking like leadwhite and cadmiumred are toxic. Every artefact we produce will eventually become nature again through the stage of being waste.
